The brief
Every quote meant an estimator reading drawings, digging through old jobs for similar prices and building a spreadsheet by hand. A good quote could take a week, and the firm was losing work to faster competitors.
What we did
- Sat with the estimators to find the slow, repetitive parts of quoting.
- Built a tool that reads drawings and specifications, finds similar past jobs and drafts a costed quote from the firm’s own prices.
- Kept an estimator in charge: every draft shows how it was worked out, and nothing reaches a customer until a person approves it.
- Kept it private, so drawings and prices never leave the firm’s control.
The result
The time to quote fell by 80%, from about a week to an afternoon, and the team now sends three times as many quotes. Estimators spend their time on judgement rather than spreadsheets.
